John R. Caruso, M.D., FACS
Dr. Caruso has more than 16 years of experience in the practice of neurological surgery. His experience started with his three-year residency at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Va. He also completed a two-year residency at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. After finishing his residency, Dr. Caruso went into private practice with Neurosurgical Specialists, LLC, in Hagerstown, Md.
Dr. Caruso received his M.D. from the Eastern Virginia Medical School, in Norfolk, Va., in 1990. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery as of November 2001. Dr. Caruso is licensed in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Caruso and his wife Kimberly have four children.
Brian Holmes, M.D., FACS
Dr. Holmes has more than 18 years of experience in the field of neurological surgery. His career in the field began at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he was a neurosurgery resident from 1988 to 1993. Dr. Holmes was the Honorary Assistant House Physician at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, England. In 1993, he joined the Department of Neurological Surgery at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He began his work with Neurosurgical Specialists, LLC, in Hagerstown, Md., in September 2002.
Dr. Holmes received his M.D. in 1987 from The Pennsylvania State University, where he attended the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, College of Medicine. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Pennsylvania Neurosurgical Society, and the Lackawanna County Medical Society. Dr. Holmes is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners was well as the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.
Top of PageNeil Patrick O’Malley, M.D., FACS
Dr. O’Malley is a senior partner and board-certified neurosurgeon at Parkway Neuroscience and Spine Institute. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he is a graduate of the Medical College of Ohio. He completed 2 years of General Surgery Residency in New Haven, CT at Yale Hospital and St. Raphael’s Hospital. In 1991, he began his training in Neurosurgery at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Jefferson is the largest Spinal Cord Injury Center in the United States offering a full range of advanced spinal surgical care as well as spinal cord injury and fracture care. He completed his training in 1996 and moved to the tri-state area where he has practiced since.
Dr. O’Malley is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is an active member in the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is currently Chief of the Department of Neurosurgery at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, MD. He is managing partner of the Parkway Neuroscience and Spine Institute.
Dr. O’Malley’s clinical interests include complex cervical and lumbar spine surgery. He has extensive experience and training in spinal cord injury and fractures from trauma and tumors as well. He has extensive training in minimally invasive spinal fusion surgery as well as discectomies. He has extensive experience in percutaneous, minimally invasive vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty and has been a guest lecturer and instructor to other physicians in these techniques. He has trained with recognized leaders in the field of aneurysm surgery and posterior fossa surgery for trigeminal neuralgia and acoustic neuromas.
He is an officer and consultant on the Claims Committee at Medical Mutual the Liability Insurance Society of Maryland, the largest physician insurance carrier in Maryland. Dr. O’Malley is active in the Hagerstown community. He has been an active Rotarian for 8 years in the Rotary Club of Maryland and a committee chairman. He has coached youth soccer in the Hagerstown area on and off for years through the YMCA.
In 2002, Washington County Hospital began a Doctor of the Year program to recognize and honor the Hospital’s top physicians. Nominations are accepted from nurses who recommend physicians for their compassion, knowledge and skill as well as other traits. Out of the 300 physicians on staff, Dr. O’Malley has been recognized as Doctor of the Year three of the last four years since the program’s inception for his kind and compassionate treatment of his patients as well as his medical judgment and technical skills.
Top of PageMichael G. Radley, M.D., FACS
Dr. Radley has more than 18 years of experience in the field of neurological surgery. He began his career in this field with a six-year residency at the University of Rochester. After completing his residency in 1994, Dr. Radley went into private practice with Neurosurgical Specialists, LLC, in Hagerstown, Md.
Dr. Radley received his M.D. with honors from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1988. He became board certified in November 1998. Dr. Radley is a member of the American Association of Neurosurgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Faculty of the American College of Surgeons, and the Maryland State Neurosurgical Society.
Top of PageMichael DeMarco, D.O.
Dr. DeMarco is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. Frequently he performs electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) in the evaluation of patients with pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the spine or extremities.
Dr. DeMarco graduated from Rutgers University with a B.S. degree in Exercise Science. He earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his Physical Medicine residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He later returned there to become the director of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has served 8 years in the U.S. Army.
Top of PageJulie Hoang, M.D.
Julie T. Hoang, M.D. obtained her Bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland, and medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Hoang completed her residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University. She then went on to complete her Pain Management Fellowship at the University of Michigan before returning to Maryland.
Dr. Hoang provides a comprehensive treatment approach for patients with pain, musculoskeletal, and spine disorders. She incorporates medication, physical therapy, and interventional procedures such as spine and peripheral joint injections as part of treatment plan. She has special interests in radiculopathies, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis pain, and musculoskeletal health.
Dr. Julie Hoang is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and board eligible in Pain Medicine. She is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Top of PageThomas Larkin, M.D.
Dr. Larkin graduated from medical school with Honors from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. After that he had his internship, residency and fellowship training in anesthesiology and pain management at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After finishing his residency training he stayed on as staff at Walter Reed for another 7 years. During this period he served at various times as the chief of the pain management clinic as well as the chief of the anesthesia department. During this tenure at Walter Reed the pain service grew from an afterthought to a nationally known and respected institution in the field of pain management which has been featured in national magazines and profiled on television. He left the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel to pursue a career in private practice.
Dr. Larkin has been practicing interventional pain management for over 10 years. He has taught countless residents and fellows on how and why to apply these treatments. Dr. Larkin is also active in research in the field of pain management, having authored and co-authored more than 25 research papers and book chapters. He has lectured and instructed others on techniques in pain management both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Larkin is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management. He is an active member of the International Spinal Injection Society and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He holds a position as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
